A landmark celebration marking the city's 800th birthday will bring people together on Sunday 25 July 2027, with Salisbury City Council today revealing the first exciting plans for a day of festivities and inviting the community to help make history.
The anniversary celebration will commemorate 800 years since the city was granted its Royal Charter and promises to be a memorable occasion filled with entertainment, culture, heritage and community spirit. More details of the day's programme will be announced over the coming months, but the Council have confirmed that a spectacular anniversary parade, The Grand Procession, will begin the celebrations on the morning of 25 July 2027.
Residents, community groups, schools, charities, businesses, performers, organisations and individuals are now being encouraged to become part of the historic occasion by taking part in the parade.
Whether youβre a dance troupe, musician, sports club, community group or looking to make a walking float, sign up to take part and help create a colourful procession that reflects the city's past, present and future.
Cllr Sam Charleston, Leader of Salisbury City Council, said, βThe Grand Procession will celebrate the people who make our city special, showcasing its heritage, diversity and creativity as it marks this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. It is a fantastic opportunity, out of many more to come, to be involved in the celebrations.β
While the parade is the first major announcement, there will be a full programme of entertainment throughout the day, including live music, family activities, heritage celebrations, VVIP attendance and show-stopping moments, with further announcements to follow in the coming months.
